Banubanu
The Eco Wilderness Retreat in Australia's Remote North East Arnhem Land
Saddle Tail Snapper.
Local Fisherman.
Guests can enjoy light game, reef and shore based fly fishing in a tropical paradise.
Fishing around ultra remote Bremer Island is beyond breathtaking! Marlin, Sailfish and migrating Pelagics like Spanish Mackerel and Tuna abound in the waters where the Gulf of Carpentaria meets the Arafura Sea.
Numerous local reefs are home to the other prize Pelagics, Trevally and Queenfish and to scores of other tropical reef species including those fabulous fish for the table, the Red Emperor, Jewfish and Coral Trout.
For the local Indigenous tribes, fishing is often a daily activity that rarely goes unrewarded. In the shallows of the estuaries and off the beaches too, wading knee deep with a spear will often bring surprising catches of Stingray, Mud Crab, Trevally, Milk Fish and Mangrove Jack.
It is not necessary to have fished before to enjoy this great Banubanu activity.
Helen and Trevor are always delighted to teach anyone from scratch how to catch fish in open blue water and off the reef. They will show you how to land a big fish and how handle it and release it.
They will brief you on each species and if a catch is destined for your table they will show you how to dispatch it quickly and humanely.
Back at the Retreat they will show you how to prepare it for the barbie, for steaming and how to fillet it for frying.
