A Cultural Experience

The Yolngu, the Indigenous Australian people inhabiting North-Eastern Arnhem Land are the region’s traditional owners. Yolngu means “person” in the Yolngu languages. The local Yolngu living at the Gutjangan Homeland on Bremer Island are the only regular inhabitants. They are welcoming of the visitors who come to stay at Banubanu.

A Rustic Escape From Reality

The Wilderness Retreat and its fittings are constructed with local materials, some of them recovered from the beaches on the island, to keep an ultra low impact on the surroundings. Nevertheless, Banu guests sleep on comfortable beds with clean sheets and soft pillows. Fans and ocean breezes cool them when it is hot and the cleverly constructed structures keep them snug and dry during the brief but intense tropical downpours in the wet season. Eco friendly showers and other facilities ensure that Banubanu remains in a pristine state.

Opportunities to Chill Out

Fishing over the coral reefs can be exhilarating at times and there certainly are a host of other activities to catch your interest. But, many of Banubanu’s guests agree that the very best experience comes from being able to sit in an ultra remote location and just chill out with a glass of wine. Peace and quiet to think things over, a natural serenity to encourage reflection.
